To our valued Academic and Study Abroad advisors

Our mission statement is 'to promote study abroad opportunities that fully support the learning needs of the students, and help facilitate the student's study abroad experience being academically recognised at their home educational institution.'

A.S.A. was developed when it was recognised that many students ‘struggled’ in the Study abroad Lecture environment with the integrities of a in depth lecture being taught in their second language. Even Language majors had difficulties, and it was a huge barrier for non-language majors.

All our partner Educational institutions are well established, well accredited and  leaders in their field. All listed programs must fulfil one or more of the following minimum requirements 

• Be a registered and accredited University, or partnered with one, in their home country
• Have a partner US or UK University that awards credits for students studying 
• Be a registered Institute of higher learning, whose courses have been assessed and accepted for credit transfer by a number of US Universities

A good example is how this works is PIEE (Program Internacional de Estudios De Espanol). This program was established in 1991 by the University of Malaga in the historic ‘White Town’ of Rhonda, Spain. It was established in the recognition of the increasing number of foreign students studying abroad, and their initial difficulty with the Spanish language in lecture environments. Instead, the Universities credit based courses are all held in Rhonda in small classes with a maximum of 11, ensuring personal attention. There is a full support system in place for students studying abroad. The students therefore gets the best of all worlds. We understand that the requirements to from each university for their students to receive academic credit is different. We therefore are work with the study abroad office of each University. In all cases we request that a student seeks pre approval from their home university before embarking on a study abroad program. The five main methods of achieving credits with A.S.A. are

1. Your University recognises the Institute of higher learning the student is planning to study at, and awards credit in comparable courses at your University.

2. Your University requests the syllabi of courses the student intends to take. Your staff asses them, and award credits for comparable courses

3. The Institute of higher learning your student is planning to study abroad at, is partnered with a US University/College. He/She enrol at this course with the partner University and study abroad Institute of Higher learning, and the credit is transferred from the partner University to your University

4. The study abroad course is run by a US University (e.g. a summer study abroad program with the universities professors). Your student joins this study abroad course. He/She is awarded credits by the US University, and the credit is transferred from the partner University to your University

5. The Students take classes at the Institute of higher learning while studying abroad, but you sits the assessments (exams) of your University  comparable courses when you return to your University.
